Thomas is an experienced European and German patent attorney and focuses his practice on patent prosecution, invalidity procedures, and litigation. Thomas has experience prosecuting patents in the fields of electrical engineering, software, and physics with a focus on electronics, telecommunications, optics, and medical devices. He also works on trademark, licensing, and domain arbitration matters, as well as European border control procedures. He is resident in the Palo Alto office.

Thomas represents clients before the respective patent and trademark offices in Europe. He has substantial experience in complex opposition and invalidity procedures before the European Patent Office, the German Federal Patent Court, and the German Supreme Court. He also has experience in patent infringement litigation and counsels clients on international filing strategies (trademarks and patents) in various jurisdictions, including the United States, Europe, China, and Japan. Thomas also represents clients in the drafting of license contracts and license negotiations.

Thomas is admitted to practice before the European Patent Office, The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Community Trademarks and Designs), and the German Patent and Trademark Office.

Previously, Thomas was employed as a photonics engineer by Tsunami Optics, Inc., Mountain View, California.

Thomas holds a law degree (Law for Patent Attorneys) from Fernuniversitaet Hagen, Germany, and a degree in electrical engineering (Dipl.-Ing., comparable to a U.S. Master’s Degree) from Technical University of Dortmund University, Germany. Thomas is fluent in English and German.

Thomas is a member of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) and FICPI (International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys).
